Hemp hearts, from the cannabis sativa L plant, are the soft inner part of hemp seeds when the hull off.  CBD hemp is at the “heart” of it because hemp hearts are also referred to as shelled hemp seed and hemp nut. They have the color of cream and green seeds. As the rest of the hemp plant, the hemp hearts also have 0.3% THC or less. Then, each works together creating the entourage effect. 

The extraction process involves using a solvent of which there are numerous ones. However, these solvents have their own benefits and some of them have drawbacks. The solvent is either supercritical CO2 (for CBD oil drops) or high-proof alcohol (for CBD tinctures). The gold standard for CBD hemp oil extraction is the CO2 method because it can ensure a higher level of potency freer of toxic solvents.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour 
  • ¼ cup of the decarbed hemp flower
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 T baking powder
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup coconut milk, unsweetened
  • ½ cup hemp hearts

Directions:

In a large bowl, whisk the coconut oil, maple syrup, sugar and eggs together well.  Add the dry ingredients to the wet mix.  Remember to add the hemp hearts last. Slowly stir until the batter is smooth.  Place a scoop of batter into paper muffin cups in a muffin tin and place in a pre-heated 375 degree oven for 20-25 minutes.
